Bosch washer error codes: most of them are water in, water out, or the door.

A Bosch compact washer prints an E with a number, and the common ones are the install — a tap half open, a drain hose pushed too far down the standpipe, a door that did not click. Find the code below, work the checks in order, and clear it with the reset in the strip above the table. The ones that need a technician say so.

Covers: 2015-and-newer 24-inch compact front-load washers — 300 series (WAT28400UC, WGA12400UC), 500 series (WAT28401UC, WAW285H1UC, WGB24600UC) and 800 series (WAT28402UC, WAW285H2UC, WGB24604UC) — including the Home Connect models.

Bosch · First

Before you clear it

Bosch prints E codes (E15, E24, E25). A dishwasher with no display blinks the Clean or Rinse light; the manual's table reads the pattern.

1

The display prints E:17 or E17 — same code, the colon is the display's own. Bosch calls the model number the E-Nr (WAT28400UC/09) and dates the machine by the FD number beside it; both are on the plate inside the door rim.

2

The reset: turn the program dial to Off, then cut the power for one full minute at the plug or the breaker, power it back up and start Rinse or Spin with the drum empty. A code that comes straight back is real.

3

A running cycle is cancelled by turning the dial to Off; a door that will not open afterwards is holding water or heat — choose Spin (or Drain) and let it finish, then the door releases.

4

A Home Connect model (WAW285H2UC, WGB24600UC and the rest of the 800 series since 2018) shows the code, its meaning and the next step in the Home Connect app under the washer's tile.

5

The water hookup is the install: both taps on, the hoses on the right inlets, the drain hose 4–6 inches into the standpipe and clipped so it cannot slide down. A standpipe or a tap that leaks is a licensed plumber's work.

No water coming in

What it means

The washer opened its inlet valve and the water level never rose in time. Nine times in ten the water is not reaching the valve; on an AquaStop model the tap symbol lights with it.

Check first
  1. Both taps behind the washer are fully open — a tap a quarter turn open fills so slowly the control gives up.
  2. The fill hoses are not kinked behind the machine, and the mesh screens where each hose meets the washer are clean (unscrew the hose, pull the screen with pliers, rinse).
  3. A faucet at the nearest sink runs with normal pressure; a well pump or a house filter that has dropped the pressure stalls the fill.
  4. An AquaStop hose (the thick hose with a box at the tap end) that has tripped is shut for good — the box is replaced as a part.
The fix

Open the taps all the way, clean the screens, straighten the hoses, then reset and run Rinse. With every tap open and the pressure good, the inlet valve on the washer is not opening — a part.

Code

Water level not reached

What it means

Water came in but never reached the level the cycle needs — a slow fill, or water leaving as fast as it enters.

Check first
  1. Everything under E17: the taps, the screens, the pressure.
  2. The drain hose depth — a hose pushed to the bottom of the standpipe siphons the water back out while the washer fills. It sits 4–6 inches in, no more.
  3. Reset (power off one minute) and run Rinse.
The fix

Fix the fill or the siphon and the code clears. A washer that fills at a normal rate, holds its water and still prints E29 has a level sensor or a sensor hose reading wrong — a part, a service call.

Stop & call

E29 with the taps open, the pressure good and the drain hose at the right depth is the level sensor — a service call. On a machine under warranty it is a warranty service call.

Will not drain

What it means

The drain pump ran and the water level did not drop — the hose is kinked, the pump filter is full, or the standpipe is blocked.

Check first
  1. The drain hose is not kinked or crushed behind the washer, and it sits only 4–6 inches into the standpipe.
  2. The pump filter behind the small door at the bottom right of the front: put a towel and a shallow pan down, pull the little drain hose beside it and let it empty, then turn the cap out. Pull the coin, the sock, the hair tie; rinse it and screw it back in snug.
  3. The standpipe itself drains — pour a bucket of water down it; if it backs up, the house drain is clogged, not the washer.
  4. Suds. Non-HE detergent or too much of it makes a foam the pump cannot move; run Rinse with nothing added.
The fix

Clear the hose, the filter or the drain and run Spin. A pump that hums and moves nothing with a clean filter is the drain pump — a part, and on a machine under warranty a warranty call.

Drain taking too long

What it means

The water left the drum, but slower than the control allows — the start of a clog rather than a full one.

Check first
  1. The pump filter as under E18 — a filter half full of lint drains slowly for weeks before it stops.
  2. The drain hose runs without a dip or a loop that holds water behind the machine.
  3. The standpipe or the sink drain is slow — a bucket of water poured down it should disappear at once.
The fix

A clean filter and a straight hose clear it. If it comes back with both clean, the pump is weak — a part.

Leak detected (AquaStop)

What it means

The sensor in the base of the washer found water under the drum — the AquaStop safety. The control shuts the inlet and pumps out.

Check first
  1. Turn off both taps and pull the washer out. Look at the drain hose connection at the back of the machine, then at each fill hose end.
  2. The pump filter cap at the bottom front — was it screwed back in straight after the last cleaning?
  3. The detergent drawer: a drawer packed with softener residue overflows down the front and into the base.
  4. Was the drum overfilled with suds? Foam pushed out of the drum lands in the base and trips the same sensor.
The fix

Tighten or reseat whatever was loose, dry the base (tip the machine back onto a towel with a helper), and run Rinse. If the base fills again with every hose tight and the cap straight, the leak is inside — a hose off the pump, the door boot, a drum seal. That is a service call.

Stop & call

A leak the hoses, the filter cap and the drawer do not explain is inside the cabinet. Leave the taps off and call it in — a door boot or a drum seal is a technician's job; on a machine under warranty it is a warranty service call.

The door and the load

Door open

What it means

The washer tried to start and the door switch did not report closed, or the door lock did not engage.

Check first
  1. Push the door shut until it clicks. A towel caught in the gasket, or a sleeve hanging out, keeps the latch from seating.
  2. The latch area is clean — detergent residue on the strike stops the lock from engaging.
  3. Reset (power off one minute) and try again.
The fix

A door that latches and still shows the code after a reset has a door lock that is not reporting — a part.

Unbalanced load

What it means

The drum could not get up to spin speed without hitting the cabinet, so the washer stopped and tried to redistribute. It gives up after a few tries and leaves the load wet.

Check first
  1. Open the door and spread the load. One heavy item — a bath mat, a pair of jeans alone — needs two or three towels beside it; a 24-inch drum balances a small load worst of all.
  2. A new washer: the four shipping bolts are out of the back. The washer cannot balance with them in.
  3. The washer sits flat on all four feet. Rock it corner to corner; a foot off the floor is turned down until it stops rocking, then the lock nut is tightened. A stacked pair needs the stacking kit, not a shelf.
The fix

Rebalance the load and run Spin. If a level washer with a normal load still throws E32 on every cycle, the shock absorbers or the drum springs are worn — a part.

Childproof lock is on

What it means

Not a fault. The panel is locked so a child cannot change the cycle — the key symbol shows in the display and the keys and the dial do nothing.

Check first
  1. Press and hold the Start/Reload key (the one the panel marks with the key symbol) for about five seconds until the symbol goes out.
The fix

The lock turns off and the panel answers again. On a model where the symbol flashes, the dial was turned while locked — turn it back to the running program first, then unlock.

The motor and the boards

Code

Motor fault

What it means

The motor did not turn when the control drove it, or its speed sensor reported nothing.

Check first
  1. Take half the load out and try again — a drum packed tight on a compact washer stalls the motor.
  2. A new washer: the shipping bolts are out of the back.
  3. Reset (power off one minute) and run an empty Spin. If the drum turns freely by hand but the motor never runs, it is the motor or its board.
The fix

E02 that shows with a normal load after a reset is the motor, its carbon brushes on a brushed model, or the drive board — a service call, not a home repair.

Stop & call

A drum that turns by hand but never under power is a motor or control fault. File it with the code, the E-Nr and the FD; on a machine under warranty it is a warranty service call.

E57#10

Service call

Motor control fault

What it means

The motor's control electronics reported a fault — the inverter that drives the brushless motor, or the link between it and the main control.

Check first
  1. Cut the power for five full minutes, power it back up and run an empty Spin.
The fix

E57 that returns is the motor control module or the main board — a part inside the cabinet, a service call.

Stop & call

E57 after a five-minute power cut is a service call. Nothing on the motor side is a home repair; on a machine under warranty it is a warranty service call.

Warranty · When to file

When it's a warranty call

Every unit leaves with the manufacturer's full factory warranty. The codes below name a part inside the machine — once the checks have ruled out the install, the power and the hoses, call Bosch's line with the model and serial, and text us if you want a hand with the claim.

All units are surplus inventory (open box, cancelled order, customer return, overstock, or minor scratch & dent). Every unit includes the manufacturer's full factory warranty. Please inspect thoroughly in person before purchasing — cosmetic imperfections or missing accessories are possible.

Still stuck?

Text us the model number and what it's doing — we'll point you at the next step.

A fix, a part, or a warranty call — the plate's model and serial plus one line about the symptom is all it takes to tell which.

These pages are educational. Every appliance is a little different — follow the manufacturer's manual and local code, and leave gas, water heater and 240V work to a licensed installer.
