Error codes · Midea · Refrigerators

Midea refrigerator error codes: most of them are a sensor, and the rest are the ice maker.

A Midea refrigerator prints its codes in the temperature display — the fridge and freezer numbers are replaced by E1 or EP while the fault stands. Nearly every one names a sensor or an ice maker, so there is less to check at home than on a washer and more to write down for the call. Find the code below, read the strip above the table before you reset, and move the food to a cooler if the box warms.

Covers: 2019-and-newer Midea French door (MRQ22D7, MRF29D6, MRF26), side-by-side (MRS26D5), bottom-freezer (MRB19B7) and top-freezer (MRT18, MRT21) refrigerators.

Midea · First

Before you clear it

Midea prints E codes (E1, E2) and letter codes on laundry (OE, LE); a code with no match here is the model's manual.

1

The code replaces the temperatures in the display and stays until the fault clears. A two-sensor French door (MRF29) prints only E1 and E2; the MRQ22 with its flex drawer and two ice makers prints the longer list below.

2

The reset: unplug the refrigerator (or switch its breaker off) for one full minute, plug it back in and give it 24 hours before judging the temperatures — a refrigerator settles slowly. A code that is back after that is real.

3

Three panel states look like faults and are not: the Control Lock (hold the lock button three seconds), Quick Cool and Quick Freeze (hold the Fridge or Freezer button three seconds; they turn themselves off), and the water filter light, which runs on a timer. Each is in the table.

4

A beep with no code is the door alarm — a door open past a couple of minutes, or a bin or a jar holding it off the seal. It stops when the door seats.

5

The model and serial plate is inside the fresh-food compartment on the left wall near the top. Every warranty call starts with those two numbers.

Section 1 of 3

Temperature and defrost sensors

A sensor code is a part behind a panel — a technician's job. The one thing to check at home is whether the box is still holding temperature, and for how long.

E1#1
Service call
Code

Fridge temperature sensor

What it means

The sensor that reads the fresh-food section is open or shorted. The control runs the fridge on a guess until it is replaced.

Check first
  1. Reset (unplug one minute) and watch for a day — a sensor code that stays gone was a power blip.
  2. A thermometer in a glass of water on the middle shelf reads 37–40°F after a day; warmer, and the control is guessing wrong.
The fix

An E1 that returns is the fridge sensor or its connector behind the back panel of the fresh-food section — a part a technician replaces. The refrigerator runs meanwhile; keep an eye on the thermometer.

Stop & call

E1 after a reset is a service call. Note the model and serial from the left wall and how the fridge is holding temperature.

E2#2
Service call
Code

Freezer temperature sensor

What it means

The sensor that reads the freezer is open or shorted. The control runs the freezer on a guess until it is replaced.

Check first
  1. Reset (unplug one minute) and watch for a day.
  2. A thermometer between two frozen packages reads 0°F after a day; ice cream going soft is the freezer running warm on the guess.
The fix

An E2 that returns is the freezer sensor or its connector behind the freezer's back panel — a technician's job. Move the frozen food to a cooler if the freezer softens before the visit.

Stop & call

E2 after a reset is a service call. On a machine under warranty it is a warranty call.

E3#3
Service call
Code

Flex drawer sensor

What it means

On the MRQ22 the PerfectChill flex drawer has its own sensor, and it is open or shorted. The drawer cannot hold its chosen setting until it is replaced.

Check first
  1. Reset (unplug one minute) and watch the drawer for a day.
  2. Move anything that must stay frozen out of the drawer into the freezer meanwhile.
The fix

An E3 that returns is the drawer sensor — a part behind the drawer's back wall, a technician's job. The fridge and the freezer hold their own temperatures meanwhile.

Stop & call

E3 after a reset is a service call on the flex drawer. The rest of the refrigerator is not affected.

E4#4
Service call
Code

Fridge defrost sensor

What it means

The sensor that tells the control the fresh-food coil has finished defrosting is open or shorted. Without it the defrost cannot run right and the coil ices over.

Check first
  1. Reset (unplug one minute) and watch for a day.
  2. Frost on the fridge's back panel, water under the crisper drawers, or a fridge creeping warm while the freezer holds, fits this code.
The fix

An E4 that returns is the defrost sensor behind the fridge's back panel — a technician's job. A 24-hour thaw with everything out holds it over; it is not the fix.

Stop & call

E4 after a reset is a service call. Thaw it, dry it, and run it until the technician comes.

E5#5
Service call
Code

Freezer defrost sensor

What it means

The sensor that watches the freezer coil's defrost is open or shorted. The freezer coil ices over and the airflow stops.

Check first
  1. Reset (unplug one minute) and watch for a day.
  2. Frost thick on the freezer's back panel and a freezer warming slowly over a week fits this code.
The fix

An E5 that returns is the freezer defrost sensor — behind the freezer's back panel, a technician's job. A full thaw buys a few weeks; it does not fix it.

Stop & call

E5 after a reset is a service call. The refrigerator keeps running meanwhile; a 24-hour thaw with everything out holds it over.

E7#6
Service call
Code

Room temperature sensor

What it means

The sensor that reads the air around the refrigerator is open or shorted. The control uses it to pace the compressor; the box keeps cooling without it.

Check first
  1. Reset (unplug one minute). The refrigerator is in a room between 50°F and 100°F — a garage in January or a porch in July is outside what the control expects.
The fix

An E7 that returns is the ambient sensor near the main board at the bottom back — a part, a technician's. The food is safe meanwhile.

Stop & call

E7 after a reset is a service call, and not an urgent one — the cooling is not affected.

EH#7
Service call
Code

Humidity sensor

What it means

The sensor that reads the moisture in the fresh-food section is open or shorted. The crisper humidity control runs on a guess until it is replaced.

Check first
  1. Reset (unplug one minute) and watch for a day.
The fix

An EH that returns is the humidity sensor — a part a technician replaces. The temperatures are not affected.

Stop & call

EH after a reset is a service call, and the food is safe meanwhile.

Section 2 of 3

Ice makers

The MRQ22 carries two ice makers — one in the fridge door and one in the freezer — and each has its own codes. The fridge ice maker's are F codes, the freezer's E codes.

EP#8
Check, then call
Code

Freezer ice maker will not turn

What it means

The freezer ice maker's tray did not twist to drop its ice in the time the control allowed. Ice jammed under it, or the motor.

Check first
  1. Take the ice bucket out and look at the tray — a cube wedged under the edge, or a block of refrozen ice, holds it. Warm water on a cloth frees it; never a knife.
  2. The freezer is near 0°F; a freezer running warm makes soft ice that sticks.
  3. Reset (unplug one minute) and listen within a day for the tray to turn and the valve to run water.
The fix

Clear the jam, fix the temperature, reset. An ice maker that still will not turn with the tray free is the ice maker assembly — a part a technician replaces.

Stop & call

EP with the tray free and the freezer cold is a service call on the ice maker. Under warranty it is a warranty call.

F5#9
Check, then call
Code

Fridge ice maker will not turn

What it means

The ice maker in the refrigerator door did not twist its tray in the time allowed. Ice jammed under it, or the motor.

Check first
  1. Take the door bucket out and look at the tray for a wedged cube or a block of refrozen ice. Warm water on a cloth frees it.
  2. The ice room's flap (the seal the bucket sits against) closes fully; a bucket out of its seat lets warm air in and the ice refreezes into a block.
  3. Reset (unplug one minute) and listen within a day for the tray to turn.
The fix

Clear the jam and reset. A tray that is free and still will not turn is the door ice maker assembly — a technician's job.

Stop & call

F5 with the tray free is a service call on the door ice maker. Under warranty it is a warranty call.

EE#10
Service call
Code

Freezer ice maker sensor

What it means

The sensor that tells the freezer ice maker its tray is frozen is open or shorted. No ice is made until it is replaced.

Check first
  1. Reset (unplug one minute) and watch for a day — the freezer ice maker should turn and refill within 24 hours if the code was a blip.
The fix

An EE that returns is the ice maker's sensor — on most models the whole ice maker assembly is the part. A technician's job; the cooling is not affected.

Stop & call

EE after a reset is a service call. Only the ice stops; the refrigerator cools normally.

F4#11
Service call
Code

Fridge ice maker sensor

What it means

The sensor on the door ice maker is open or shorted. That ice maker stops; the freezer's keeps going.

Check first
  1. Reset (unplug one minute) and watch for a day.
The fix

An F4 that returns is the door ice maker's sensor or the assembly — a technician's job.

Stop & call

F4 after a reset is a service call on the door ice maker. The cooling is not affected.

CA#12
Check, then call
Code

Ice maker board not talking

What it means

The main control lost communication with the board that runs the door ice maker. On a French door it shows when the harness through the top hinge has been disturbed — a door taken off for a move.

Check first
  1. Was a door removed or the refrigerator moved recently? The connector sits under the small cover on the top hinge of the door.
  2. Unplug the refrigerator, lift the hinge cover (one screw), and look at the connector — pushed home with its latch clicked, no pins bent.
  3. Plug it back in; the code clears at once if the connector was the cause.
The fix

Seat the connector and the ice maker comes back. A connector seated and latched that still prints CA is the harness through the hinge or the ice maker board — a technician's job.

Stop & call

CA with the hinge connector seated is a service call. The refrigerator cools normally meanwhile; only the door ice maker stops.

Section 3 of 3

The panel and the boards

E6#13
Service call
Code

Display not talking to the main board

What it means

The control panel and the main board at the bottom back lost communication with each other. A loose harness, or one of the boards.

Check first
  1. Unplug the refrigerator for five full minutes, plug it in and watch the panel light up.
  2. Was a door removed or the refrigerator moved recently? On a model with the panel in the door, the harness runs through the top hinge — check its connector under the hinge cover.
The fix

An E6 that comes back with the hinge connector seated is the harness or a board — a service call. The refrigerator usually keeps cooling at its last setting meanwhile.

Stop & call

E6 after a five-minute unplug is a service call. Keep the doors shut and the food cold; the cooling generally carries on.

Control Lock#14
Fix at home
Code

Control Lock is on

What it means

Not a fault. The panel is locked so a child cannot change the settings or run the dispenser; the lock icon is lit.

Check first
  1. Press and hold the Control Lock button for three seconds until the icon goes out.
The fix

The panel and the dispenser answer again.

Filter#15
Fix at home
Code

Water filter reminder

What it means

Not a fault. The filter light turns on at six months on a timer, not on a measurement of the filter.

Check first
  1. Replace the filter (the plate inside the fridge names the type), then press and hold the Water Filter button for three seconds.
The fix

The light goes out. A dispenser that trickles after a new filter has air in the line — run a gallon through it.

Warranty · When to file

When it's a warranty call

Every unit leaves with the manufacturer's full factory warranty. The codes below name a part inside the machine — once the checks have ruled out the install, the power and the hoses, call Midea's line with the model and serial, and text us if you want a hand with the claim.

All units are surplus inventory (open box, cancelled order, customer return, overstock, or minor scratch & dent). Every unit includes the manufacturer's full factory warranty. Please inspect thoroughly in person before purchasing — cosmetic imperfections or missing accessories are possible.

Still stuck?

Text us the model number and what it's doing — we'll point you at the next step.

A fix, a part, or a warranty call — the plate's model and serial plus one line about the symptom is all it takes to tell which.

These pages are educational. Every appliance is a little different — follow the manufacturer's manual and local code, and leave gas, water heater and 240V work to a licensed installer.
